Mark is starting Graduate School this fall!!! HOORAY!!!!

After a crap load of stress this summer with searching for loans and all that jazz, everything has worked out beautifully. He's super excited and I'm excited for him ( also excited that I can tell people that I'm dating a college student...or is that weird??).

This is something I know he's wanted for a really long time and he's been so much happier since he got the word that his loan came in.
Looks like this household will be a student household-both Mark and Jason are in graduate school......I'm happy for them both, but even happier that it's not me back in school. Masters degree is enough for me.

Oh, and one more thing,,,for the love of all that is holy...can we please get a break from this hot as balls weather!

Faith in Humanity-Restored

Working in the field I'm in, it's really easy to get cynical about people in general. However, things that have happened in the past two weeks have helped restore my faith in humanity.

Two weeks ago, while going through bad car-ma, the tire went out on my grandparents car, leaving me waiting on the side of the road in 100+ degree heat, of course the tow truck was on it's merry way, but still it was hot as balls! I'm pleased to report that several people of all ages and genders offered to stop and render aid. One man in his minivan pulled over and asked me if I wanted to wait inside, he made sure to tell me that he had his kids with him. Presumably to make it seem less weird or predatory. Several people offered me water, one even offered to go get me water. Cheers to you humanity.

This week, was pretty crappy for me, what with a random and rather extreme TMJ flare...left me all kinds of cranky and resorting to eating mushy food. Mushy food that included an abundance of oatmeal. Wednesday morning while waiting in an obscenely long line at Starbucks for Oatmeal ( no, not coffee....freaking Oatmeal), I made it to the cashiers window only to have the cashier tell me that the person in front had paid for my order, and that if I wanted to pay it forward, then that's ok.

I have to say that kinda made my morning, thankful for random acts of kindness.

Today, I'm 31 years old. Don't really feel the novelty of this one like I did last years birthday. I'm not sad about it or anything, actually I'm in a fantastic mood!!! I've got a great boyfriend-he's the bees-knes, a great living situation ( shout out to renting a house with my peeps), a great dog and all that jazz.

Work was not too bad today, my colleagues took me out for birthday lunch and gave me gourmet chocolate bars ( ** Godiva....I love you**). Tonight I'll go to spin class and then a casual birthday burrito at Freebirds.

Rambling Post of Sorts

No real topic here...just that I'm really lagging in my blogging,,,,I guess I may have run out of things to talk about? No, that's not it. Perhaps the green grunch and blue blob stole my motivation?

I used to blog about interesting clients. Haven't had some of those in awhile, but recently that changed. Saw one who dug trenches around his house and bushes in his front yard, disconnected his own plumbing due to his paranoia and saves his poop in a jar. Yes, that's right, saves poop in a jar. The whole visit was odd and sad, but what really got me is the fact that this person is a veteran. Is his mental illness due to PTSD from the war he was in or was he always that ill and it just wasn't noticed because fighters were needed? I'm not sure, either way, it's sad and off putting.

Home life is good, we all dig being in the house and have recently updated the yard with......flowers and GNOMES!!! Yeah baby...GNOMES! Mark is working on getting into grad school, but it just seems sometimes that every time it gets almost worked out, another obstacle gets thrown down. I'm confident that we'll get it figured out. Jason is now considering grad school as well. Looks like I may be the non student in the house.......well, Otis too...but considering he's a rotten dog, he wouldn't qualify for student status anyway.

Personally, I guess I'm doing ok, been fighting a mild case of the blues, mostly related to my old lady disease. It's being a jerk and it just seems like I haven't bounced back into my routine after that blasted surgery. Meh, soon....soon I'll start whooping back up in spin class.

No Water

Courtesy of this obscenely cold weather, we are waterless today. Unfortunately I discovered our lack of water after using my toilet...oh well.

Called the landlord, who called a plumber and basically we're S.O.L. until either the pipes start leaking or they get all happy and thaw out. Seriously hoping they don't leak or burst...that would suck....it would suck almost as much as me filling my toilet with water that I had to buy. UGH.

For now the roommates and I are looking to borrow a shower for the evening, or maybe just a few minutes. Gotta remove the stink.....and the stubble...serious stubble....I haven't shaved my legs in 2 days now people and that's GROSS and unacceptable in my book.

Also, in closing, I stopped at my local Tom Thumb, who's parking lot is still an ice skating rink and noticed a trend. Every single guy, with the exception of the man who appeared to be in his 70's, did that whole slide-skid thing while walking. It was fairly amusing to watch, though not nearly as funny as the group of pop tarts in their uggs falling on the ice, then falling more as they were trying to help each other up.

Should I have helped? Meh, probably, but I'm grouchy and unshaven and come on...we all know how much I freaking hate those awful uggs.

New Laptop, New Post

Proud to report that I'm happily posting from my brand new laptop!!! Thank you HP and Best Buy for helping provide the opportunity to purchase this little gem!!!

House living is still going swimmingly-though the backyard could use a mow and weed eating....neither apparatus we own nor do we want to purchase.....back to borrowing baby!

Work is work. My yearly review pretty much sucked balls, as such, I'm officially no longer fond of my boss....but my co-workers still freaking rock!

Holidays for once, were drama FREE!!! That's right folks....drama FREE. Perhaps having holiday celebrations at my house is the key for this business.

That's about it for this short blog post. I promise to blog on a more regular basis....meaning I'll try to blog more than once every 3 months or so.

I've noticed that I don't blog as much or at all really since IT got all "up in my business" on the work computer.

I suppose an update is in order....since my last blog was 2 months ago. Yeesh.

Living with the boys is still going well. We have pancake saturdays ( courtesy of Mark) and omelet Sundays ( also courtesy of Mark) It's awesome!!!

I miss being home right now, been gone for almost a month courtesy of my ankle surgery. Blasted driving ankle. The surgery went well, took 2 hours- the surgeon keeps saying, " You really had an impressive amount of scar tissue." I'm uber glad that all he did was remove the scar tissue, no bone scraping or tendon issues. Been rocking the evil darth vadar boot,,,but that ends this Wednesday!!! I'm worried about the ankle though, I'd really like to get back to Spin class, but I'm not sure the ankle will allow that.

We'll just see what the surgeon says. I can tell a little difference, it doesn't seem to hurt nearly as much to use it, but my gait is all jacked up courtesy of the boot, which has my right leg up about 2 inches higher than the left leg....an uneven gait is just not sexy. Not that a gait in general is sexy....unless you've been taught to do that sex kitten walk. Trust me, I have not.

Hopefully, I'll be able to go home soon, I miss my Y chromosome.....miss being home in general too. Let's just hope Otis isn't too rotten by then.

All Moved In

Well, I'm happy to report that all three of us survived the move in. Out of the three households we moved into one location, only two things got broken, sadly they were both two of my things. But they were minor things....so....hooray.

Everything is working out for the most part, we've had 2 bumps in the road-but those have since been remedied. Pictures have yet to be hung up, but surround sound speakers are happily in place. The second couch will be delivered on August 23rd. No thanks to you JC Penney for neglecting to tell me the couch I purchased was on a 3-4 week back order. Ugh. Jerks.

Work is making me absolutely freaking crazy....seriously. It's eating my lunch, taking my dessert and bullying me on the playground. You know work is ridiculous when you are actually looking forward to having surgery because it means you'll be off work for a week.

** I think that above statement might just indicate I need a therapist...or a margarita.**

Flippin' Sweet

My luck may be changing-at least on the rent house front.

Turns out the house we found for all three of us ( that we all actually liked) had some serious foundation leaks and would not be ready for rent until at least October. Waiting until October is just not an option. Unfortunately, I found this little tid bit of information out as I was about 30 minutes outside of Rockport.

Called up Jason to relay the news, thankfully he had some time that day and was able to go look at some of the "just in case" houses I'd picked out earlier as back-ups. One of the houses I was really jonesing for simply for it's location happened to be flippin sweet!!

Jason was able to tour it and bless his heart, took a video with his phone and opened every single door and cabinet he could so I could see the house. After viewing the video, we decided that this house was flippin sweet!! All three of us have submitted our applications and the realtor said yesterday that no one else has submitted rental applications for this house, so hopefully, in the next few hours I'll find out if we will have a home.

I did finally tell my ma-maw the news that the Y chromosome was going to be a roommate, her response, " Well, you guys will be just like Three's Company."

So, once we get moved in and settled...come and knock on our door. If you are curious about the house, shoot me a message and I'll send you the link.

Wrench in my plans

The house that my soon to be roommate and I have been practically drooling over has officially been removed from rotation.

The stupid ( out of state) landlord was not getting back to the realtor about the issue of stove and refrigerator, which lead me to the conclusion that all issues with the house would be this big of a P.I.T.A. So, that combined with the fact that the Y chromosome will now be a roommate has lead us to bigger and hopefully better ( 3 bedroom) houses. We start looking again tomorrow...wish us luck.

Another HUGE wrench in my plans is that I need to have ankle surgery. My wretched right ankle ( AKA Jerk-face, butt munch, ass hat) has given out on me again. When I was 11, the whole freaking ankle was reconstructed.....it's been bothering me for 3+ years, but now it hurts all the time. Plus, I can't get through spin class-which is just unacceptable people! Doc says that I'll be non weight bearing for 2 weeks...but here's the kicker..I can't drive for 4 weeks. Yeah, see, I drive for my job....I haven't figured out how I'm going to manage this one. We shall see.

It's sad that I told the doc that this was just not convenient for me right now and I'd have to wait for surgery until things at work calmed down. Wow..seriously? Being an adult sucks monkey nuts sometimes.

And, now for the happy.... I leave town in 6 days. Whoo-Hoo road trip!!!

Things are going along swimmingly. Is that even a real word? I'm certain it is.

The Y chromosome and I are still doing really, really well. Will be taking a trip to his hometown later next month, and I'm UBER, UBER excited because on the way down, we're stopping at the San Marcos Outlets......HOORAY! I've always wanted to shop there, yeah, I'm fully aware of how sad that is. What's even more sad is that I've been checking the shopping directory to map out what stores I want to go to.

Living with the grands is ok, Otis enjoys it more than I do...he's Papaw's "buddy". Otis gets to run errands with Papaw whenever he leaves the shop, has his pick of rooms to sleep in, he frequently alternates between my room and theirs. Danged rotten dog. Papaw feeds him biscuits with almost every meal- that ought to be an interesting habit to break. But I suppose, all in all, it's really not that bad.

My future roommate and I have found a house that we really want to rent- it's freaking AWESOME. However, there's no stove or refrigerator and I draw the line at supplying appliances for a rent home. I'm currently in talks with the realtor- keep your fingers crossed.

I'm unusually grouchy today, maybe it's the getting up early as balls start to the day, maybe it's the stupid MRI I was supposed to have at 7:30 this morning- yet still haven't had and it's 8:18. Or maybe it's the fact that I'm about $ 100 over drawn. Freaking A!!! I suppose the bright side is I should be getting $90 in cash wednesday, and hopefully getting back the $60 I loaned out tonight. I hate being cranky on my birthday week.

ok...so my birthday isn't until June...but I've wanted these sneakers for a LONG TIME! My mom bought them for me last weekend for my upcoming birthday and they should be shipped to me Friday. I'm giving serious thought to wearing them to my mom's church for easter sunday-should go well with my easter bunny ears hat. At least that's what I think!

On another note, Otis is horribly rotten already and appears to be a sock monger. He's rather fond of going into the sock bin under my bed and dragging out multiple pairs of my socks and scattering them across the apartment. I'm hoping to break this habit....

In closing, if you've not gone to see How To Train Your Dragon- get off your couch and go see it! It's cute and has some stellar one liners.

Happy Monday- if you can call a Monday happy....I'm happy because at least this is a short week for me as I've taken Friday off!!! Hip, Hip Hooray.

A New Beginning

As my previous post mentioned, I recently lost Mr. Floyd to kidney failure. I have been searching around trying to find another boston that I felt comfortable with, even filled out applications for two different local rescue groups, but nothing felt right....until last night at 6:30 when I got the call about this little guy
His foster parents have had him about 4 days, they are calling him Bosco-but don't worry, I'm going to change that one. The foster mom was kind enough to let me and my grandparents come over last night after 9pm to meet him. He's great- a little on the skinny side as he'd been a stray for some time, but has already gained 2 pounds in the time he's been with his foster family. The rescue group is being kind enough to allow me to foster him initially, and then adopt him when I have the money ready. Don't get me wrong, he's not Mr. Floyd, nothing like him really and I would expect that as Floyd really was one of a kind. I can say that I'm very glad to have another chance to bring a boston home and have a dog running around the apartment and doing all those typical doggie things.

I'm considering the following names: Gibbs, Gibson, Murphy, Chester, Wallace, Tank...but I'm totally open to suggestions.

Gone too soon

This past Saturday, Mr. Floyd my boston terror was euthanized. He had been feeling sick most of last week and just stopped eating. The tests showed he was in acute renal failure, and was working with maybe 1/3 of his kidneys. We're not sure what happened, except perhaps it was genetics. I am thankful for the 2 1/2 years my family and I were able to enjoy him and spoil him like crazy. But, I'm also sad at the same time, I feel a hole in my heart and will always miss my boston terror.....never seen a dog quite like him and probably never will again. He was 42 pounds of pure boston hilarity. Although his life was short, I know that he had a great doggie life and was loved, probably more loved by my pa-paw than anyone else....I mean, how can you deny that...how many other dogs are fed biscuits once a week and are given their own recliner and then rocked to sleep in it?

I'm thankful to Beyond The Rainbow who provided the in home euthanasia, they made it beautiful and peaceful and I was able to respect Floyd and give him dignity through the end of it all. I think being there for him and seeing him no longer in pain really helped, but I can't deny that I'm still sad about losing him. His memorial has been set up on their website, I haven't looked at it yet, but will eventually. My Update

I've been particularly bad about updating lately ( ok, so really not updating at all except for pictures of Floyd). So, for those of you clamoring or maybe you are just a passer-by,,,,here's an honest to god update.

My social life took an interesting turn completely by accident. I was introduced to someone at a friends apartment during an impromptu movie night and one thing led to another and well, now we're dating. I'm happy with this relationship, it's probably the first grown up one I've ever been in. I'm happy with the guy and generally happy overall- yeah, we're cute like that. Hell, my dog even likes him! For those of you who know Mr. Floyd, this is a HUUUUGE deal because, well, Floyd as a rule hates everyone except for my immediate family. Well, immediate family and Jenny and Wil- he's cool with them too.

Work is still work, though happily it's slowed down a wee bit in clinic, which I'm very grateful for. *insert ginourmous sigh of relief here*

Family has been rough going. My step-dad has been off work since before Thanksgiving due to surgery and variety of medical snafu's that followed. We're crossing our fingers that he goes back to work in April. I've been helping out financially as much as possible and they were able to get food assistance, which I have to say, has been a HUGE relief. Big Props to 2-1-1 and the city where they live!!! My youngest sister took the SAT"s- yeah, she's in 7th grade...marinate on that one for a bit. She scored well for her age, kicking booty in band, and running with her " nerd herd" , so I suppose for a 13 year old, she's good.

I move in May...soooo long arrrrlington and stupid freaking Jerry world. I'll be at my grandparents for about two months as I plan on spending the money for an apartment deposit and other such things on my birthday instead. That's right...I'm turning 30 and going to P-A-R-T-Y!!! Skydiving, Avenue Q and whatever else I freaking feel like doing. After that, I'm hoping to rent a house in Lewisville with a very good friend from college.

One Smart Cookie

My youngest sister- the one in 7th grade just took the SAT's about a month ago. She's participating in this smart student program something or other through her school. Basically, she takes a butt load of AP classes and has homework out the wazoo. I'm not overly thrilled about her ridiculous amount of coursework, but I am proud to brag about her SAT scores.

Please remember that she's a 7th grader.....not a high school senior at this point. Here's her scores:

Reading: 550

Math: 390

Writing: 460

Multiple Choice: 50

Essay Section: 5

I'd consider that pretty stinkin' impressive for a 7th grader. How about you?

Floyd Takes a Chair

Mr. Floyd likes to run rampant around the grands house, pa-paw is his best buddy and really lets him get away with anything. Seriously....he's worse about spoiling the dog than I am....every monday night Floyd gets at least 2 biscuits while we are eating dinner, pa-paw tears them up into pieces and tosses them down.

He's now taken over my grandfathers recliner on monday nights, and prefers to be covered up while sleeping. Pa-paw actually sits at the table behind the chairs when he does this. Don't belive me? Well, here's proof.....try not to fall over from the uber cuteness that is Mr. Floyd.

So, I'm now the proud owner of a Smarphone- Blackberry Curve to be more specific. It's red and it rocks my face off!!

I now refer to it as my crackberry-cause you just can't stop messing with it or my sassberry, mostly because my ma-maw teases me and tells me I've gotten more sassy since I got that phone. Of course, we all know this to be a complete lie....I've always been a wee bit sassy!!

Not a whole lot to blog about today....oh...except my social life. Which has taken a rather, um, fun turn shall we say. *tee-hee*

I had an awesome weekend, stayed out waaaayyyy to late on Saturday, but in the end it was well worth it. The 4 hour rehearsal yesterday was not quite as awesome....but I made it through without my lips falling off.

I know I'm tired today though as I've already consumed enough caffeine for it totally to be an illegal stimulant and this morning, I tried not once, but twice to lock my front door by pointing my car key unlocker thing at it. I wonder if Honda is aware that their remote key less entry device is not compatible with the front door of my apartment.

I really should look into this, I could have sworn the dude at Carmax assured me the device would preform as needed.

I know I promised floyd pics...but dang if I can remember to bring my camera. So, a happy monday to you and yours- and lets all be thankful that it's a short work week. HOORAY!

Recently here in Dallas, a story is all a twitter in the local news agencies. A grandmother who is Spanish speaking only, was stopped by a Dallas cop and given tickets. One for committing an illegal U-turn, one for driving w/o a license and one for being a non English speaking driver. Granted, I believe the news reports that she is trying to learn English and did have a license which was left at home, but I still feel conflicted about the non English speaking ticket.

The police chief did point out that the officer was confused about the law, which actually applies to a federal law about commercial vehicle drivers and is now profusely apologizing all over himself and the department. I realize as a social worker, I'm supposed to be all cuddly and open arms about people and respect diversity....but this irks me. If she cannot speak English or read English, arguably is she able to read and understand the traffic laws? If she cannot, does that make her an unsafe driver? What's the big difference between a commercial driver and a non commercial driver? Why should a non commercial driver be exempt?

Now all the local diversity groups are in arms, LULAC, Hispanic Council etc are calling for "change" and more training for the officers. It's nonsense as far as I'm concerned. My stance is this, if as an English speaking citizen I decided to make my residence in a new country- for example Italy or France or Guatemala, it would be expected that I should learn the countries language in order to function as a citizen. Why is the exception continued to be for the states?

So, what's new & exciting?

Not a whole lot to update on. Sheesh...I've been boring eh guys? Well, I'm still working at my job....been here 3 years and 5 months. Doing a bit of job sharing lately- not enjoying it, but at least I've learned new skill sets.

Update on home stuff: moved to Arrrlington, literally right across the street from the cowboys stadium. Traffic hasn't been too bad, but I do get cranky when I can't get to my apartment in an efficient manner on some game days. Mr. Floyd loves the complex, it's got landscaped creek beds that run throughout. He basically considers those his domain and wades through them whenever possible. Yeah, this is the same dog that I have to drag into the bathtub to bathe, but dirty-ish fake creek beds...well, he's all over those.

Update on Family: everyone is doing well for the most part. My mom's husband had two surgeries in a row about a week ago, emergency appendectomy and then spinal surgery to repair herniated discs, bone spurs etc. I think his at home recovery may actually be harder on my mom. Grandparents are well, we had a scare about a month ago that they would lose the house, but everything worked out. Marissa still enjoys calling us to taunt and tease with the cooler Denver temps- but that will stop soon as the snowy season approaches!!

What about me you ask? Well, I'm rockin & rollin. Doing remicade infusions every 6 weeks, it seems to be the bees-knees! So much so, that I've rejoined LA Fitness and make every attempt to get to the gym 4 times a week. However, I must admit that the Saturday 60 MINUTE spin class kicked my ass a couple dozen times. I do believe that spin class will be a once a week thing instead of multiple times. Looking forward to Halloween, I'm going to be Rosie the Riveter- don't worry I'll take plenty of pics! I'm getting uber forgetful lately, I'll just go ahead and attribute it to stress. Prime examples of my forgetfulness of late include: forgetting to turn off my oven, I've done this multiple times. I find myself wandering through my apartment, getting near the kitchen and wondering why it's soo freaking hot in that area-yeah, it's because I FREAKING LEFT MY OVEN ON FOR THE PAST 2 HOURS! Ugh.

Also, I've been forgetting to put on deodorant prior to leaving the house, thankfully, I keep a spare deodorant at work. I'm sure my co-workers appreciate the spare that I keep, I know I feel better not running around all stinky.

Perhaps it's time for a mental health day.

Ohhh..did you see it yet?? I did!! It was delicious!! Chock full of special effects and good ol' fashioned summer action. Will it ever be an Oscar contender? Hell no...but what's the point of summer if we can't have some movies that are just fun? GO SEE IT! I'm going to see it a second time-mostly because I missed some one-liners and other parts of the movie due to laughing and a potty break. A few months ago, my co-worker and I decided we wanted to present at the upcoming NASW ( national association of social workers) conference. After much debate, we decided on a topic. She wrote the objectives, and I completed the abstract and summary. We proof-read and got all our ducks in a row and then sent it out into the great blue yonder!

Well, two days ago we received an email confirming that yes, indeed...our proposal was accepted. I'm super jazzed to report that yours truly & her co-worker will be presenting on the following topic: Health Literacy in Vulnerable Populations- How to assess and respond.

Today, while doing a little bit of work driving, I was listening to the city council meeting on WRR. I am so incredibly disgusted right now. The DALLAS CITY COUNCIL IS FREAKING RIDICULOUS! There's a mall around town, known as Southwest Center Mall, formerly known as Red Bird Mall or more commonly referred to now as "Dead Bird Mall". This mall has been in bankruptcy for the past 2 years, yet today, in our glorious council voted to fly down a consulting group from Washington ( because we clearly have NONE here that could do the job), to evaluate the mall and "offer their suggestions". Freaking ridiculous waste of my tax dollars. The verbiage is...and I quote " not to exceed $120, 000"

Why in this day and age, would we spend that much money on a mall that is clearly dead in the water. Do the neighborhood a favor, bulldoze that eyesore and build a grocery store, hell, even a wal-mart. SOMETHING! I cannot begin to name the many floundering community programs that would better benefit from that money. UGH. This really hits close to home, especially if you know me and know my job. It's Wednesday, rainy, cold and I'm tired. This morning, to help me stay awake ( I partially failed at that task), I made a list in my head of things that were annoying me. I know, that's not constructive, but eh...I'm not sure I care about that today. So, without further adieu....here's my list.

Things That annoy me

1. People in my complex who leash their dogs to the back porch instead of walking them.

2. The woman sitting next to me during the lecture who slurped her coffee the whole time!

3. A certain room being used today, a room that is NEVER situated properly.

4. The coffee slurping woman's shoes. Who wears 3 inch, platform slides on a cold, rainy day? Further more...who wears shoes like that when you work in a hospital?

5. My allergy shots, this business of having to go twice a week is quite a P.I.T.A.

6. Daylight Savings Time. Enough already!! I'm over this.

Well ya'll, that should just about do it for today. My posting is grumpy in nature because I'm farking tired and cold. I'm sure the next one will be more "me".

Pop Culture and my Mom.

I spent all of the past Sunday with my mom, the majority of the day was spent shopping. We stopped at a fancy pants store, known for carrying dress shoes in my size and made a detour into jewelry/accessories department, where I tried on a pair of sunglasses. These particular sunglasses are similar to the plastic weird ones that Kanye West has been sporting lately.

What happened next really threw me for a loop. I called over to my mom to check out my shades.... and the following remarks took place:
Mom: "You look like Kanye West with those on."
Me: Yeah..I love him...he's sooo arrogant...but sooo talented."
Mom: " I know...he's pretty good looking too."

What surprised me was that my mom actually knew who Kanye West was, and that she thinks he's good looking. Hmmm..if I were one of those snarky 16 year olds, I suppose I would still be dumbfounded that my mom pays attention to pop culture on occasion.
Perhaps the moral of the story is that moms' are cooler than we think ( at least sometimes they are).

January flew by....or at least now it seems like it did. Maybe it's because February is so stinkin' short!

I'm busy as all holy everything at work. Working on two fairly decent sized projects...one w/ a co-worker...hopefully the NASW approves of it and come October, I'll be assisting my first ever professional presentation! I never really thought I'd be doing things like this in my social work career!! However, I consider it a stepping stone in my professional development.

The Christmas Aftermath.

Well, I survived yet another holiday season. I spent too much on gifts this year for family, but I attribute that to the fact that I had no one to split the costs of gifts with ( *cough, cough*..marissa...*hint, hint*). There was only 1 drama episode from the family, and that of course, came courtesy of my mom. She usually stresses hardcore for any events, much less the events held at her house. However, once the company got there, all was well in the household.

I got some nice gifts, including a stellar pair of argyle toe socks!! I also got a not so stellar gift courtesy of tim and marissa....It's super heinous! I'll have to include a picture later.

Pa-paw had his shoulder surgery the day after christmas, it went really, really well! Now, he just has to tolerate being in the crazy shoulder brace for the next 4 weeks. Thanks for all your well-wishes and a HUGE thanks for Jenny for bringing over homemade chicken noodle soup! You rock girl!

Several weeks before thanksgiving, my pa-paw hurt his shoulder while working in his shop. However, much to the dismay of the family, he didn't see his regular provider to address his shoulder, instead he began seeing a chiropractor and getting weekly adjustments.

Well, the shoulder pain just kept getting worse and worse, and I finally persuaded him to see his regular doctor ( NOT THE QUACK CHIROPRACTOR). Turns out, that the main tendon in the shoulder is completely torn, not only is it completely torn, but it it's regressed too far back for an arthroscopic surgery. The surgeon is going to have to do a full open shoulder surgery on my pa-paw. Following surgery, he'll be in a brace for 3 weeks, and no driving 3-6 weeks after surgery. They are probably going to schedule the surgery early next week.

Keep your fingers crossed that all goes well and he has a speedy and as pain free of a recovery as possible. Also keep your fingers crossed that the guy he's hired to help out in the shop actually bothers showing up and completing the abundance of jobs that have come in recently.

Up here in the Big D, there's a certain radio station that converts to all Christmas music, ALL THE TIME starting now. Seriously, I'm not kidding....if you're in the area tune to 103.7 or google it on the internet. It's scary!

Now, back on topic. I was station surfing in my car ( a rather nasty habit of mine...ask anyone who's ever had to drive/road trip with me), and came across the "Christmas station". What I heard made me wonder if it was some sort of siren song for Satan!! It was the song- Baby it's cold outside. I'm sure you all know it...when it was good and featured Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Jordan, or the more popular one featuring Margaret Whiting and Johnny Mercer-this is the version usually heard on the radio. However, the siren song for Satan version featured the supremely bastardized duo of Dolly Parton and Rod Stewart.

Yeah, I cringed just having to type that. Pray that you NEVER HEAR THAT VERSION. I'm sure that if two people were listening at the same time, well, it would surely signal the Apocalypse.

Vacation's coming up!

I officially declare that it's too nice of a day to be wasted inside at work! Let's all skip out and go do fun things!!!

The family vacation draws nigh...and by family I mean to include the following: mom, step-dad, sisters, brother in law and grandparents. We are taking a cruise to Cozumel, but first comes yet another drive to Galveston. Lord help me on that one!! Needless to say, there will be no rocking of the Avenue Q soundtrack in my mom's minivan. Why you ask? Well, somehow I doubt my grandparents or mother would be very amused by the songs, " The Internet is for Porn", or "Everyone's a little bit racist" or even..." You can be as loud as the hell you want"

*sigh* At least I'll come back with a bit of a tan...maybe. In closing...it's ok to admit you are now mentally singing one of the aforementioned songs. Bwaahaahaa!!!

Galveston

I'm very happy to report that Jenny and I survived our extreme conference adventure! I did post the pics over at my flickr site-so no complaints about the lack of pics in this post. The two of us did catch a touch of the island while we were there...nothing major...just a scratchy throat and cough. Possibly from the combination of sawdust/mold/sea air & stupid construction workers.

I suppose the easiest thing to do blog wise would be a few highlights and low lights of the trip.

Highlights
- there were at least 3 gas stations open...most with $1.99 gas!
- Starbucks was open
- We got to see the Bishops' Palace
- We got to see a ton of the ocean as well as some pretty kick ass sunsets.
- Jenny bought a pink wig-which in turn brought some enjoyable picture opportunities.
- I got a crap ton of CEU's while I was there.
- Fresh seafood....YUM
- We got reduced admission to Moody Aquarium, also got to touch a starfish and a spiney sea urchin
- Soundtrack to Avenue Q was rocked in my car. Rocked a lot! I even managed to memorize a few of the songs. Hooray.

Low lights
- Our motel was sketchy....we found random sticky stuff on one set of wrapped cups and a big ol' pubic hair on the unwrapped ones. And on the third day, I had to walk a plank of wood to gain entrance into the lobby. Yup..totally not kidding. They were laying new tile and no one could walk on it yet. Did I mention the entire first floor of the motel was deemed "unsafe/unlawful to occupy"? Hence..all the construction workers.
- Our motel was full of construction workers..who insisted on mooning each other and banging on doors at 6am to wake each other up. Oh and they didn't believe in going to bed early....no, no sir!
- A seagull crapped on my car...TWICE!
- Starbucks was only open from 7am-5pm
- The massive destruction of homes/complexes and buildings-very sobering.
-Freaking massive traffic in Clear Lake...seriously...WTF???!?!?!?

I recently put numbers into my new cell phone and added what I thought was my mother's cell phone until I just got a random call. Let me type it out for ya'lls amusement.

*** phone vibrates ( it's on vibrate b/c I'm at work)***

Me: "Hey Mom"

Guy: "Umm... I got a call from this number while I was in class, so sorry I missed your call."

Me: "Oh, sorry, I just got a new phone and programmed in what I thought was my mom's number and you're clearly not my mom."

Guy: "Oh, are you sure...."

Me: "Yeah. "

Guy: "Ok, just wanted to make sure I didn't have any strays running around...you never know." *laughing*.

Comings and goings...

Well, it's been an interesting past few weeks. Winny's Halloween party went off smashingly! If I wasn't such a lazy arse, I would have posted pics already...perhaps I'll get them up in another week.

The actual day of Halloween wasn't that great for me, as I was suffering from the bronchitis one of the women in the office passed on to me ( that was a trick...not a treat!!). So, I spent the entire weekend in my apartment, save for a 2.5 hour outing to the dog park. Saturday night was DRAMA!! My cell phone ( my ONLY phone) died around 6pm. Completely died..no screen, no dialing/receiving calls capabilities...NOTHING!!! So, If you called me saturday evening or sunday...I apologize for not calling back...but the phone was dead.

Sunday I met my grandparents @ the cell phone place and we did the whole phone biznass. Turns out that my poor phone couldn't even be salvaged. The guy told me that since I'd had it for 5ish years...I'd really gotten a good life out of it. I was also told that the SIM card was too old to be salvaged either. I'm a bit sad since that fact made me lose all my numbers and ringtones and all that jazz. However, I now have a snazzy red samsung SGH A737. There's all kinds of gadgets and doo-dads on it..including an XM music function.

I don't know how to use all that doo-dads and gadgets....yet....but I'm hopeful. Not too much else to report, except that I've got a short work week as JCC and I will be heading down to galveston for the NASW conf, known dubbed by JCC as " the extreme conference adventure".
I'm nervous...I've heard all kinds of rumors about nothing being open, the hotel still have flood damage ( which to me equals funky mold icky-ness). Keep your fingers crossed as we venture down South.

Today I was working an outreach where the speaker was lecturing the seniors ( not 18 y/o...more like the 60+ crowd) about condoms, aids and managed to work praying into the spiel.

Since I was bored of her prattling, I sent out a text message to various persons in my phone detailing her spiel. The best response I got back was from my brother-in-law. I've included it below for your amusement. If you don't' find this funny, well, then there's just something wrong with you.

So, after that crazy came out of nowhere rain yesterday...I left work thinking...Hmm...there's a slight chill in the air.

This morning at 2:30, when Floyd woke me up to go outside ( yeah..he's got to stop this trend), I noticed...HOLY CRAP...it's really chilly out here!! I'm happy about this cooler weather...it rocks my face off!! It also make starbucks pumpkin spice latte's ever so much more delicious!

What is it about the first cool day of the season that gets people in this mood? Even my dog was feeling it this morning...he had an extra spring in his early morning jump!

I'll enjoy this day!! I think I might even go to starbucks and partake in the pumpkin spice goodness!!

Holy Crap!! It's finally happened....today i find myself soooo tired that I'm not able to start working.

Fell asleep during the lecture this morning, woke up only to view one of the many pictures posted......only this one was of a scrotum afflicted w/ cellulitis or something like that. GROSS! Not the picture I want to wake up to, come to think of it, I NEVER WANT TO SEE THAT AGAIN. Stupid medical lectures.

I think we should all go home now. Yes, that's the plan...let's go home, pack a lunch and go to the lake for a picnic. Who's with me? Come on...I've got a small SUV ( Jojo the wonder honda) and I just cleaned her out...vacuumed and everything.

Dressing in the Dark

Today has been interesting. I got up at the butt crack of dawn to walk Mr. Floyd-who promptly ran towards a opossum- fully intent on catching it. I was able to intervene via his short leash! All hail the locking mechanism!

Went on to get dressed in the dark-something I am bound and determined to stop doing! All the while my head is still pounding and I've got a stupid cough.

I get to work and cave in due to head pain, go to the clinic, where I learn that I'm running a fever and fighting a losing battle against the war of sinus infection. Get some meds, get chewed out by the doctor and head back to work.

I get back to work and notice that I do not match. Normally, this wouldn't bother me much..but today is particularly glaring. I have at least been told that I'm wearing the correct shoes, and have been told to try black or maybe a red shirt. I'll describe my outfit to you guys...just for your amusement. ( I would take a picture...but no) I'm wearing grey pinstriped slacks, and a shirt that is mostly light blue/purple based w/ flowers matching those colors. I just don't match.
It reminds me of a day in high school that I also got dressed in the dark and felt particularly off....I was wearing purple tie-dyed jeans and some red shirt. Fashionista clearly does not apply to me.
So, moral of the story..don't get dressed in the dark, and if you do...don't be surprised when co-workers call you out on it.

I've been kicked in the teeth...financially that is. Today, I really (almost) regret going to college, taking out loans that afforded me to ability to go to college.

I don't want to elaborate too much on the situation-it will just make me that much more depressed.

I feel like I'm fighting a useless financial battle. Finding a part time job has been the absolute pits....and I understand why...to employers it must seem ridiculous that a person currently employed, with a masters degree is applying to be a cashier/kennel cleaner/collections agent/whatever on a part time basis.

I now truly understand the statement "swimming in debt", only today it feels like I'm drowning in it. If someone happens to come across my sense of relief or something along those lines..please send it back. I'd truly love to send this feeling of hopelessness packing.

Halloween Help

Instead of working a lot today, I've been pondering what I should be for Halloween this year. Last year I was a crayloa ( props to jenny for letting me use her idea...more props for helping me paint it!!) My issue is that the costume needs to be work appropriate and cheap.

Your task..my loyal readers is to help me on my quest for a costume idea!! Please remember that I'm a BROKE social worker and aren't really uber artsy! I'll go ahead and list the ideas Lindsay and I came up with during lunch:

Is mercury retrograde?? I'm curious?? Here lately everything has been absolutely insane!

Yesterday at work, the construction crew mucked up our systems...no phone/no internet. So, after getting to work a little before 7, I decided that 1:15 was time to go home. I don't feel too bad about it, since I ate lunch at my desk and all.

Last night, since I was uber frustrated about the work stuff, I took a cardio kickboxing class @ the gym. Boy howdy....I sure got rid of all my aggression....unfortunately I have the arm motion of a t-rex today. I think that class will be a once a week only. I'm really trying hard to get back in the gym routine-however there's a hooker of a teacher who seriously inhibits my attendance for aqua fit. I've not yet gotten brave enough to try the 5:45am spin class...but who knows.

So, from now on, I'm going to try and get to the gym at least 3 times a week. If I actually make it to a 5:45am class...I promise to blog about it.

I am on a mission to lose more weight, but I'm really going to try and do it the healthy way. For me, the healthy way means no weight watchers- I tend to manipulate it ( but that's just the bulimic in me). My plan is gym and watch portion sizes as much as possible. Oh and since I'm sooo anti water....I'm including more plain iced tea instead of diet coke. Wish me luck on my journey...and don't scold me too much on movie night when I have a root beer.

I have to say that I'm relieved that DFW was spared any heinous Ike related rain. Super pleased to report that my friends in H-town area were spared any major damage.

In other news...I've really been enjoying this cooler weather. Having my windows open at home ROCKS! Drinking the super yummy Pumpkin Spice Latte from starbucks is ever so good when the weather cools down. I've also been enjoying my sweet cinnamon pumpkin lotion from Bath and Body Works ( are we noticing a trend???)

This morning, I had to actually grab a jacket to walk Floyd-yea...it was chill like that. I hope this trend of cooler weather continues.

However, the trend I could really do without is my farking allergies flaring up on random days. SCREW YOU allergies! I'll attack you with some zyrtec! RAH.

Sorry about that tangent. I'm glad it's tuesday and movie night....I'll be even more glad for next week's movie night when we see....BURN AFTER READING!! Yay.

Last night we saw Death Race. Quite possibly the worse movie ever! Terrible acting...but such great trashy action. It got to a point that you just had to laugh at the attempted acting. An a/c update

I have an update!! Hooray.

Carmax reports to me that I need a new compressor and blower motor ( haha..blower). Thankfully it's covered under my warranty, so is the rental car that I'm currently rollin' in. A small note on the rental car- I can't stand it. It's freaking small as balls-however it's a/c works brilliantly!!!

I suppose that's all for now. I just picked up the new Jason Mraz CD @ Target over my lunch break....and I'm digging it!!

I did get an email last week from a blast from the past, but I'm not going to elaborate on it. That's all for now.

I'm not sure what's going on in my world related to all things air conditioner-ish ( I know, it's not a word).

Tuesday, I got my power bill ( from the most p.o.s. stupid freaking power company EVER-AKA First Choice Power) and almost crapped my pants when I saw the bill. It was $583.47, for a 2 bedroom apartment!!! I called the customer service line and was informed by the twat on the other line that it seems that the computer double billed me since it didn't bill for a full cycle last month. Her exact words...swear to Buddha!! She then goes on to tell me that she understands what an inconvenience it is to the customers, and would be happy to put me on a deferred payment plan. I was tempted to tell her that I'd be happy to shove my foot in her arse-but I didn't.

Then coming back from a quick Krogers' run that same evening...my a/c in the car goes out. *sigh* Jojo the wonder honda picked a bad time to have a problem.

As of today, my a/c in the car is still out, so I'm rolling around south dallas with my windows down, enjoying the rather harsh texas air of late.

I'm taking the car in on tuesday, hopefully what's wrong is still covered under the warranty. I'm also on a deferred payment plan for the power bill from hell for the next few months. Come November...I'm totally switching electricity companies.

Any suggestions?? Preferably for companies that don't suck arse!

Pity Party

I'm having a pity party right now...so I'm going to use my blog to whine about it and then get over it. Happily...I am getting my hair done tonight.

So..here goes my whine. Feel free to skip this post if you so desire.

Last week, I find out that in addition to the anklosing spondolytis, I've got osteoarthritis in both knees. BUMMER.

A few days ago, my gums started bleeding, so I skitz a wee bit and make a dental appointment. Go in yesterday, and he tells me I've got stage 1 gum disease. So, next week I go in for my first of three appointments of root scaling and planing (OUCH). BUMMER.

Today, I go in to see the orthopedic surgeon regarding my right ankle. Turns out the tear is in a spot of the ankle that doesn't even freaking hurt. So, he mashes all over the ankle, bends and manipulates, etc and causes it to really hurt ( it hurts so much that I'm nauseated). He tells me that surgically there's nothing he can do. He offers to inject it...I veto that. We discussed physical therapy, but veto that as well b/c I've had it multiple times and it didn't work. Basically, the pain is because of my stupid disease. Happy that I'm not being cut into for it, but unhappy that there's no solution. BUMMER.

So, because of all this, I"m having a pity party today..but I PROMISE to snap out of it.

Wow. Just Wow. What can you say about a perfect piece of meat and glorious potatoes and cheesecake that you'd leave a man for??? I'm sorry to report that my pictures didn't turn out well at all. The lighting in that place was better suited for whispering in someones ear than picture taking. I'll browse their website to see if I can swipe pics from it. For now... I'll leave you with the evening's eatings.

I had the 10 oz. NY strip steak. Ahh...sweet, sweet, steak. It came with these glorious "loaded" mashed potatoes. Ma-maw and Pa-Paw both had the flat iron steak with this peppercorn sauce...but theirs came with this combination of au gratin and mashed potatoes...but the SWEET addition was that there was bleu cheese in them. *DROOL*
Dessert was an even unto itself. Pa-paw and I both had their NY style cheescake....again...very high on the WOW factor. Ma-maw had the 4 layer chocolate peanut butter cake covered in chocolate ganache.

Food was fantastic!! DAMN! Just went to their website and there's no food pics.

I promise I'll do better on Friday when a group of us go to Ruth Chris'

I'm uber pleased to report that I'm feeling much better!!! Last Monday I started losing my voice and felt like I'd swallowed hot nails from Satan. Well, I chucked it up to allergies and just assumed the problem would go away. Well, by Thursday I had zero voice and it hurt to swallow my own saliva, and Friday found me at a local doc in the box. She said I had tonsillitis and pharyngitis and sinus infection. Gave me some antibiotics and painkillers ( WTF??), she said that they might help the throat pain. I did not fill the painkiller prescription. Stayed home from work on Friday and basically slept all weekend long.

Today, I'm super excited that I'm better....because.....because.... tonight starts restaurant week and my grandparents and I will be dining at Pappas Brothers Steakhouse. Hell yea bob! That's what I'm talking about. I love steak, it's the best! Friday some of the movie night crew will head to Ruth Chris' Steakhouse....*drool*

I'll attempt to post if I have recovered from the food hangover. Will also bring my camera tonight and *hopefully* take pics of the glorious beef. Have a splendid Monday.

Super excited that it's restaurant week!! ( or at least it's almost restaurant week). Next Monday shall find me and the g-rents dining @ Pappas' Steakhouse...OMG....DROOL. Where's my work ethic??

Perhaps it's the heat,, or maybe it's the ever growing PTO balance I've accrued, but my work ethic is in the toilet.

I'm going to go ahead and blame both of them!! Yeah..that makes me feel better. It's odd when you actually have PTO saved up and the effect it has on you. It is almost like getting senior-itis. I'm going to go ahead and continue coming to work, but it's nice to wake up and think to myself..you know..if I really didn't want to go to work today, it would be ok.

I shall press on....ever towards November....when I"ll actually need about 16 hours of PTO-maybe even less than that if I use my two flex days. I see a calling in sick day in my near future.

Last night after the movie, I went to my happy neighborhood Krogers. Not the skanky one in old Irving or even the slightly skanky one off Irving Blvd...nope..the decent one across the street from Tom Thumb.

Anyway, now that we've squared away the geographic location of this Krogers..I went there for milk. Got home, put the milk away and did various little things around the apartment. I then went back to the kitchen for a lovely glass of ice, cold milk! Got out the milk and started to pour it into the glass and lo behold.... CHUNKS CAME OUT OF THE FREAKING MILK CONTAINER!!

GOD! IT WAS SOOOOO GROSS! Stupid farking Krogers. Milk should never, ever, ever, ever plop into a glass.
